Psalm 63 Among Heroes

Psalm 63

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by him shall exult,
for the mouths of liars will be stopped.
(Psalm 63 ESV

As I read this I was struck with awe, my first understanding is that Jesus Himself read these very same words. I wonder, if when He was heavy of heart, would He say these words to Himself?

When Jesus was a little boy He sat in the synagogue and heard the these words spoken by the men and elders.

Then my mind wondered through the timeline, I thought of our early church fathers, the ones who faced Nero and his insanity.

Then came the time of the crusades, the saints that lived during the dark ages. They held on, in came the heroes of faith that fought and broke the chains of control that held the Bible captive to a few. Those believers read this very verse.

Time went by, God faithfully speaking through His Word and His children being strengthened. John Bunyan read these words and was strengthened.

This morning as I read, I was just a small, little person in a long line of people that love God's Word, reading and loving Psalm 63.

It's a great awakening to see the company I am in, we are in.

In eternity we will get to hear the stories of those brave souls, maybe they will tell us how they were blessed by God's powerful promises. I can't wait. I love hearing stories of God's faithfulness.

Yes, the Body of Christ. Thank YOU Lord for your brilliant design and Your sweet Words that strengthen us and give light to our path.
